IT was the start of a new era last night on WWE Raw, with WrestleMania and the Superstar Shake-Up now in the history books.

With the superstars now looking towards Money in the Bank on May 19, here are the five big talking points from Raw.

STYLES TO CHALLENGE ROLLINS

The big story last night was finding a No1 contender to challenge Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship at Money in the Bank.

There were two qualifying triple threat matches – AJ Styles v Rey Mysterio v Samoa Joe and Baron Corbin v Drew McIntyre v The Miz – with the winner from each match then battling it out for the number one contender spot.

In the first triple threat, Styles nailed Rey with a powerbomb and Styles Clash – hitting both moves actually onto Samoa Joe as he was laid out on the mat – and then covered Joe for the win.

Corbin scored the victory in his triple threat qualifier when McIntyre hit Miz with the Claymore Kick and Bazza pushed Drew out of the ring to steal the pinfall.

But AJ Styles won the final deciding matchup when he smashed Corbin with the Phenomenal Forearm.

Afterwards, Rollins came out for a stare-down and handshake with Styles.

Styles likely won’t dethrone Rollins so early into his Universal title reign, but this will be genuine dream matchup at Money in the Bank.

BRAY WYATT RETURNS

After months away from TV and weeks of weird hand puppet videos, Bray Wyatt finally returned last night – as host of a Playschool-style kids’ show called Firefly Fun House.

A slimmer Bray called the Fun House his “special place” and said: “All my fireflies can feel safe here… I cannot wait to show you what I’ve learned.”

He then introduced his new puppet pals – Mercy the Buzzard and Penny the Witch.

Bray said: “I used to be a very bad man. But I have been barbarically punished for all of my wrongdoings and that part of me is dead now.

“I do keep a reminder so not even in my weakest moments will I ever turn into that pathetic slob loser ever again.”

He then chain-sawed a cardboard cutout of his old persona. It was a bizarre skit but at least made Bray Wyatt interesting again – and it’s only a matter of time before he does turn back into his old self.

MAN V LADY

Double women’s champ Becky Lynch came out to address her upcoming match with Lacey Evans at Money in the Bank, which will see Becky put her Raw title on the line.

“The Man” made some backhanded insinuations about how Lacey got her spot on the card.

Becky said: “I have made a career out of slapping bleached blondes who have ‘curried favours’ from management, so Lacey Evans is really just a new version of an old approach.

“So while Lacey is in the back trying to further her career, I’m out here ready to fight anyone to cement mine.”

Lacey Evans arrived for a verbal showdown and told Becky a real lady is in control of her emotions.

The Man was unimpressed and defeated a returning Alicia Fox is a messy matchup – but Lacey Evans had the final word when she jumped in the ring and thumped Becky with the Woman’s Right.

SUPERSTAR NAME CHANGES

Last week there was controversy when NXT tag champs The War Raiders were called up to Raw and renamed The Viking Experience.

WWE has clearly met fans in the middle on this one as last night the team was reintroduced as “The Viking Raiders”.

Whatever the name, they destroyed Lucha House Party before the bell had even rang.

They hit Gran Metalik and Kalisto with a double powerbomb-slam combo and then laid out Lince Dorado with a pop-up power slam.

In another name change, Bobby Roode is now “Robert” Roode and sporting a new moustache, making his transformation to legend “Ravishing” Rick Rude almost complete.

Roode – now a singles star after Chad Gable was moved to SmackDown – faced Ricochet

Ricochet danced around Roode with impressive aerial work and landed a modified Go To Sleep. But “The One and Only” missed a 630, which allowed Roode to smash Ricochet with the Glorious DDT for the win.

Sami Zayn cut another excellent promo that accused fans of creating a “toxic culture” in WWE.

He recounted how happy he’d been during his 10 months away and proved it by sharing his Instagram holiday photos from Switzerland, Norway, Scotland, and Mexico.

Sami criticised WWE’s corporate structure and other superstars for being “ego maniacs, delusional, and entitled.”

He encouraged fans to keep booing him and said: “It’s easier to blame me than look in the mirror and hold yourselves accountable for your role in all of this.

“If you’ve got a problem with that, I suggest you all take a trip… you can all go to hell.”

Sami is one of the most current and tuned-in performers in WWE. If the company lets him run with this character, it could be genius.
