The 35-year-old, who has not been named, approached his 59-year-old victim, New South Police said.

He then threatened the 59-year-old before allegedly launching an attack.

But when the victim tried to run away, the Brit continued to assault him and stole his mobile phone.

The 59-year-old was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital and remains in a serious but stable condition.

An onlooker reported the incident to cops and the British national was charged with aggravated robbery with wounding and grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is due in court in Parramatta, in the west of Sydney, on Saturday.
