WEDNESDAY’s heatwave is likely to hit me for six but I’m hoping the racing can provide a soothing tonic.
There are a couple of fascinating contenders across the afternoon and I’m confident of more mid-week success.
3.30 Rosie Royale – Dropped to a very good mark before getting up in the closing stages at Chepstow last time out.
Raised 5lb, she remains extremely well-treated on her old form and is a dual winner at this track in the past.
This extra yardage will suit and she should take advantage of the fact most of her rivals are struggling for form.
4.10 Tomily – Danny Tudhope is riding out of his skin in his quest to be champion jockey and his presence on hat-trick seeking Tomily means the five-year-old should bring up the three-timer.
He’s only had one start for David O’Meara and is over a stone lower than his peak, so may well be able to win another couple before his streak comes to an end.
A 5lb penalty for his most recent victory means he’s 5lb well-in, too, and I expect him to win this easily.

3.20 Distant Chimes – Carries a 5lb penalty for doing the business at Wolverhampton last time out, with the step up to 1m4f clearly suiting.
He’s 2lb well-in having gone up 7lb, and with Sir Mark Prescott finally starting to fire in the winners again he should be able to follow up.
He almost certainly has plenty more to come given how lightly raced he is for a four-year-old and he should be too progressive here.
6.10 Esprit De Corps – Didn’t get the run of the race when second last time out and in this smaller field tactics should work out more favourably.
He hasn’t won for a while but keeps knocking on the door, and although up 2lb, he is still more than capable of winning off this mark.
Has a turnaround in the weights with Global Spirit and this could be his time to strike.
7.35 Quick Breath – Bumped into one on his last two starts but has a big chance now Tyler Saunders is able to claim his full 7lb.
The switch back to turf is fine and there doesn’t look anything progressive enough in the field to have his measure.
