ASAMOAH GYAN has performed a sensational U-Turn just 48 hours after announcing his retirement from international football.

Ghana’s record goalscorer announced on Monday he was quitting playing for his country after being “permanently” replaced as captain.

Now the ex-Sunderland striker, 33, has reversed his decision after talks with the African nation’s president.

Gyan, who now plays for Turkish club Kayserispor, said: “A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded.

“I have taken the request in good faith, and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah.”

The national hero has scored 51 goals in 106 matches for Ghana.

But his last cap came in September 2017 after persistent injury woes and a lack of game-time at his club led to his continued omission.

Ghana will name their provisional squad for this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt later today.

Andre Ayew, who spent last season on-loan at Fenerbahce from Swansea City, will be captain for the showpiece.

Gyan says his ambition to help Ghana win the tournament “still burns strong”.

And he added reiterated he is still “committed to serving this great nation and the people of Ghana”.

The veteran will be hoping he can add to his impressive tally of scoring in six consecutive Nations Cup finals.

Gyan also found the net in three World Cups between 2006 and 2014.
