Arsenal looking to inflict double transfer blow on Spurs by securing Madrid star Ceballos on loan after winning race to sign £27m Saliba

ARSENAL are looking to beat Spurs twice in a week by completing the signing of Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.

The North London rivals are both keen to take Spanish Under-21 international Ceballos on loan for the new season.

The Gunners have already beaten their rivals for Saint Etienne star William Saliba

But Arsenal are convinced they are going to win the scrap to bring the highly-rated midfielder to the Emirates even though they cannot offer him Champions League football.

And that would be another morale-boosting victory for the Gunners after securing a £27million deal for young defender William Saliba despite Tottenham’s best efforts to hijack the signing.

Real boss Zinedine Zidane has given the green light for Ceballos, 22, to leave on loan but has made it clear that the player still has a future at the Bernabeu.

He believes that he will benefit from the experience of playing regular Premier League football and wants him back in La Liga next summer.

Talks with Arsenal are at an advanced stage and will continue when the two clubs meet in the International Champions Cup in Washington on Tuesday.

Arsenal’s new technical director Edu will be heavily involved in the discussions while head of football Raul Sanllehi has flown back to England to conclude the Saliba signing.

With those two deals now in the bag, Arsenal will step up their efforts to prise Scotland full-back Kieran Tierney from Celtic.

The Scottish Champions have already rejected two bids for Tierney and are holding out for £25m.

And Arsenal are now in a position to match that price because they are not paying the full £27m for Saliba until he arrives from St Etienne next year.

Emery admitted after Saturday’s impressive 3-0 win over Fiorentina: “I am patient for signings because we want to choose the best solution.

“Some players are very expensive and we are waiting for this possibility because we don’t now want to go for the second line of players.

“We are aware we need to improve some players in the squad but I only want to sign three or four if we can be sure they coming to make us better.”
