Arsenal chief Edu must push through two signings after Liverpool Premier League defeat

Arsenal need to have a busy last week of the summer transfer window. The defeat at Anfield against Liverpool showed there are still limitations in Mikel Arteta’s improving squad. Arteta feels like he has to play with a back three as he hasn’t got the players to switch to a more conventional four-at-the-back formation but the additions of Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar would change that.

Lyon star Aouar is the top target ahead of next Monday’s 11pm transfer deadline.

But Arsenal, led by technical director Edu, must do what they can to get a deal for Partey over the line as well.

Atletico Madrid will not accept anything less than the 27-year-old’s £45million release clause but he is a player the Gunners clearly like as they have been tracking him all summer.

Arsenal still need that additional strength in midfield and Partey can bring that.

Arsenal have struggled to sell off some of their deadwood in recent seasons and have let far too many players leave for free.

But if the club can have a successful seven days by bringing in Partey and Aouar, it would give a serious boost to Arteta’s chances of finishing in the top four in his first full season in charge.
