ARSENAL and Manchester United have been dealt a huge transfer blow as Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic has rejected a move to England in favour of a switch to Inter Milan.
The Croatia international is sweating over his future at the Nou Camp ahead of Frenkie De Jong’s £65m arrival from Ajax in the summer.
According to reports in Italy, Inter are set to beat the Premier League giants to the midfielder’s signature at the end of the season.
The Serie A giants have reportedly had a £30million bid for Rakitic rejected but they are set to return with an offer closer to Barcelona’s asking price of around £35million.
It is understood that Luciano Spalletti’s side want to offer Rakitic a four-year deal, worth £5.5million a season that has persuaded the star to pursue a move to Italy.
The midfielder is under contract at the Nou Camp until 2021, but Barcelona are reportedly not interested in renewing his deal.
Rakitic has been linked with a move away from the Catalan club since they agreed a deal for rising Dutch star De Jong.
And with PSG ace Adrien Rabiot also said to be way on his way to the Nou Camp, Rakitic could find himself pushed down the pecking order.
But there has been no shortage of interest in the Croatian, who joined the La Liga giants from rivals Sevilla in 2014.
Chelsea reportedly made an enquiry for him last month after Cesc Fabregas completed his move to Monaco.

Manchester United have also been linked, along with Paris Saint-Germain and Italian giants Juventus.
Rakitic has insisted he is happy playing for Ernesto Valverde’s side, but the World Cup finalist could be tempted to move on if his deal is not improved.
Inter Milan have also been long-term admirers of Rakitic’s international team-mate Luka Modric.
Spalletti’s side were unsuccessful in their pursuit of him last summer and are expected to reignite their interest at the end of the season.
