Armed police race to Leicester Square and arrest ‘man with gun’ in rush hour drama


A MAN has been arrested by armed police in a dramatic swoop in the heart of London’s Leicester Square.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm at around 8.40am this morning.

Police say officers were flagged down by a member of the public before arresting the suspect.

Footage from the scene shows armed police descending on the man and pinning him to the ground seconds after arriving at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said: “Police in Leicester Square were flagged down by a member of public at about 8.40am today to reports of a man believed to be in possession of a firearm.

“The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

“He has been taken to a central London police station where he remains in custody.

“No injuries were reported. Enquiries continue.”
