JAGUAR boss James Barclay was left to look embarrassed when Andre Lotterer snatched pole position from Mitch Evans for the Rome ePrix.
Barclay prematurely celebrated when Lotterer skidded during his hot lap before the Techeetah driver caused a shock and clinched pole position, knocking Jaguar’s Evans into second place.
Barclay leapt out of his seat to celebrate with his mechanics before watching Lotterer take first place on the monitors in the garage.
Evans’ manager and ex-F1 star Mark Webber was watching on in the Jaguar garage as he saw his man drop to second.
Lotterer’s flying lap saw the four-time Le Mans champion take his first pole in Formula E.
The 37-year-old has the perfect opportunity to win his first race in the all-electric series after his maiden win was taken away from him on the last lap in Hong Kong earlier this season.
Sam Bird controversially bumped into the back of Lotterer, causing a puncture as the latter limped to last place.
Stoffel Vandoorne will start on the second row in fourth place behind Dragon’s Jose Maria Lopez.
While his Dragon teammate Maxmilian Gunther and Nissan’s Sebastien Buemi will start fifth and sixth respectively.
None of the six race winners from this season are on the front three rows of the grid, with the likes of Brit Sam Bird, Antonio Felix da Costa and Jean Eric Vergne starting outside the top ten.
