The 29-year-old Democrat introduced a blueprint for her ‘Green New Deal’ in February. It is designed to make the US economy carbon-neutral within ten years. However the plan came under fierce attack from critics who claimed it would damage economic growth.
It also spawned incorrect rumours the Democrats want to ban aeroplanes and cows.
Speaking to Yahoo News Ms Ocasio-Cortez admitted the rollout had been mismanaged.
She commented: “It was done in a way that it was easy to hijack the narrative around it. It was too fast.”
Ms Ocasio-Cortez put her plan before Congress in February, alongside Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey.

However the launch turned chaotic after Ms Ocasio-Cortez’s office incorrectly sent a document to journalists suggesting the US should aim to “get rid of farting cows and aeroplanes”.
The Congresswoman admitted this had “muddied” her message.
She said: “None of those things are in there.
“It was just frustrating, intensely frustrating.”

Ms Ocasio-Cortez, who was only elected to Congress in November, suggested she had learnt from the experience.
She stated: “I feel like I’m fine-tuning.
“So I’ll have to dial things back a little bit to get that pressure close to where I want it to be.
“But I don’t feel like there was anything major that I really wish I didn’t do that.”
