Adam Johnson’s ex reveals her fears of explaining footballer’s underage sex conviction to their daughter

ADAM Johnson’s ex-partner has revealed her fears of explaining the footballer’s underage sex conviction to their four-year-old daughter.

Stacey Flounders, 29, told her friends about her worry as the ex-Sunderland player prepares to leave jail in just over two weeks.

Johnson will have served half his six-year sentence for sexual activity with a minor and child grooming.

He admitted two of the charges, but denied others.

After a trial he was found guilty of sexual activity with the child in March 2016.

He was cleared of one charge relating to another alleged sexual act.

It emerged during the trial he met his victim when she was 14, when she would wait for him after matches to get his autograph.

Johnson began grooming her online before meeting her twice in his £80,000 Range Rover in January 2015, despite knowing she was 15.

He is her dad, so I will keep up the relationship for her. We won’t be getting back together.

On the second occasion they engaged in sexual activity, just three weeks after his ex-girlfriend Stacey gave birth to their daughter Ayla.

Those close to his ex Stacey say any contact will be for the sake of their girl, despite previous hopes of reconciling.

Stacey allowed their young daughter to visit him in Moorland prison near Doncaster, South Yorks, on her fourth birthday last month, reported The Mirror.

Stacey told friends: “He is her dad, so I will keep up the relationship for her.” But she insisted: “We won’t be getting back together.”

A source told The Mirror: “That will always be on her mind. That has to come some day, and you have to think about how you get that in first.”

Last week pictures emerged of the £2million home Johnson has bought for his release, with seven bedrooms, swimming pool and bowling alley.

A told Sun Online: “Everything is in place for Adam’s release now. He’s got his house sorted out to come back to which his sister is living in at the moment.

“He knows high-level football is off the table because of his conviction, so he’s trying to work out what to do.

“But it is not going to involve getting back with Stacey. She wants to keep things civilised and she believes their daughter should have both parents in her life, but isn’t looking to rebuild their relationship.”
