A WOMAN has walked free from court after wasting more than 200 hours of police time by false claiming two men kidnapped and raped her.

Cheeseman had attended the Whitby Folk Festival at the time of the alleged offences in August 2017.

She said she had been asked for directions by a man driving a van, who then forced her into the vehicle with the help of another man.

She claimed she was then driven to Middlesbrough and dumped there after being raped by the men.

North Yorkshire Police put 25 officers from various departments on the case, including some called in from rest days due to demand.

Officers from Cleveland Police Major Incident Team also worked on the investigation.

But after four days of enquiries and 208 hours of police time, officers came to the conclusion the report was made up.

Cheeseman was then charged with causing wasteful employment of police. She pleaded guilty to the offence at Maidstone Magistrates Court.

The fantasist was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay a surcharge of £20.
