Will Thomas Markle walk Meghan down the aisle?

After some uncertainty, it was initially confirmed that Thomas would walk his daughter down the aisle when she marries Prince Harry on May, 19.

Thomas planned to make the trip from Mexico, where he is spending his retirement, to attend the wedding in Windsor.

But just days beofre the ceremony, US media reported he would not be attending as he was suffering health problems.

TMZ said that Thomas had suffered a "heart attack" and pulled out of the wedding.

Meghan's father said he fell ill a week prior and had now realised he might be too ill to make the trip.

On the evening on May 14 he said he was going to check back into hospital after suffering more chest pains.

That news came shortly after he admitted accepting money to pose for paparazzi pictures in the run up to the big day.

Meghan's mother Doria who is attending the wedding along with Meghan's best friends Jessica Mulroney and Lindsay Roth, became the favourite to give her away.

In a further twist Thomas then told TMZ that he DID want to attend the wedding – although admitted his doctors might not let him travel due to recent health scares.

He said: "I hate the idea of missing one of the greatest moments in history and walking my daughter down the aisle."

However, the US outlet later reported that his hopes were in vain, with Meghan's dad set to undergo heart surgery.

Reportedly admitting that his attendance on the big day was now "impossible", he said: "They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage and put a stent where it is needed."

On May 16, it was reported that Thomas had undergone "successful" surgery and was "alert and coherent" following the procedure.

What was the staged paparazzi photos row?

Thomas admitted he had been paid to pose for staged paparazzi pictures which sold for £100,000.
He said he did not want to embarrass either his daughter or the royals in the wake of his confession.

Footage obtained by The Mail on Sunday showed Meghan's dad meeting at an internet cafe with a photographer.

There he was snapped looking at pictures of his daughter with her fiance.

He was also separately photographed getting measured for a suit, looking at a book of British landmarks and working out ahead of the big day.

He told US website TMZ that the chest pains had been triggered by emotional upset and specifically mentioned his oldest daughter Samantha Grant.

She, along with her brother Thomas Jr, have been slating Meghan in the weeks leading up to the wedding.

Thomas said: “I've been popping Valium for the pain, especially when I hear about my oldest daughter.”

Kensington Palace said: “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms Markle in the days before her wedding.

“She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this difficult situation.”
