KIM Jong-un is terrified of ending up murdered like Gaddafi if the US turns its back on him after North Korea ditches their nuclear weapons, it has been reported.

According to Bloomberg, the North Korean leader 'does not fancy being another Muammar Gaddafi'.

Former Libyan leader Gaddafi accepted a deal with the US to dismantle their nuclear regime in return for sanctions relief from America.

However, in 2011 Gaddafi met a violent end as he was killed by Nato-backed rebels in Libya, with images of his bloodied body going viral on social media.

According to the US broadcaster, Gaddafi's death "highlights the perils of accepting assurances from the US in return for handing over weapons" to Kim Jong-un.

Earlier this week, the scheduled summit was thrown into jeopardy when Kim Jong-un threatened to pull out in a row over US military drills and US plans for a "Libya model" for North Korea.

First vice minister of foreign affairs Kim Kye Gwan said that Mr Trump would remain as a "failed president" if he follows in the steps of his predecessors.

The statement, published by the North's central news agency on Wednesday, came hours after the North abruptly cancelled a high-level meeting with South Korea.

Kim criticised recent comments by Trump's top security adviser John Bolton and other US officials who have been talking about how the North should follow the "Libyan model" of nuclear disarmament and provide a "complete, verifiable and irreversible dismantlement."

He also criticised other comments that the North should completely abandon not only its nukes and missiles but also its biological and chemical weapons.
