Who is the woman sat next to Ross Barkley in his Chelsea contract signing picture? What is her job?

Who is she?

Her name is Marina Granovskaia, born in Russia and is a dual Russian and Canadian national.

After graduating from Moscow State University, her first job was at the oil company formerly owned by Roman Abramovich.

Granovskaia moved to London in 2003, not long after the club was bought by compatriot Abramovich.

What is her job?

After acting as a representative of the owner Roman Abramovich for a number of years, she officially joined the board in 2013.

Her official title is director of Chelsea FC, but she is primarily in charge of player transfers.

She has been involved in all of the Blues’ famous moves, including Fernando Torres, Oscar, Eden Hazard and most recently Alvaro Morata.

Has she taken over Michael Emenalo’s role?

Emenalo quit as Chelsea’s technical director in November to join Monaco.

His main job at the Blues was recruitment from the academy and loan players.

It’s likely Granovskaia will take on the majority of work left behind by Emenalo as she grows in influence.
