Who is Paula Williamson? Charles Bronson’s wife and extra who starred in Coronation Street

BRITAIN’S most notorious prisoner Charles Bronson found love again after falling head over heels for a former actress who appeared as an extra in Coronation Street.

The 64-year-old got down on one knee to propose to Paula Williamson from his Wakefield prison. But who is the former Corrie cast member?

Who is Paula Williamson?

Paula, 36, appeared in Coronation Street three times between 2008 and 2012 as an unnamed nurse.

She has also starred in TV shows including Hollyoaks, Scott & Bailey and Emmerdale.

In the latter she played a stripper.

Williamson graduated from the Manchester Metropolitan University School of Theatre in 2005.

On her romance with Bronson, who was played by Tom Hardy in a film about his life, she said: “We are so in love.

“I’ve had relationships with both men and women in the past but none of them come close to my love for Charlie.

“He’s so eccentric, but so am I. It’s a perfect match.

“I know he has a public image of being a violent prisoner, but in reality he is so different.

“He has done a lot of artwork for me and I really treasure each and every one.

“He can never change the things he has done in the past, but he is working so hard to put that behind him.”

Armed robber Bronson has been behind bars for 41 years, 37 in solitary confinement, after repeatedly having his sentence increased for attacking prison staff and taking them hostage.

Williamson was pictured leaving the prison after being proposed to by notorious lag Bronson.

She appeared on Good Morning Britain to talk about her plans to have IVF to have the thug’s baby – leading host Richard Madley to clash with the besotted star.

Stand-in presenter Richard Madeley abruptly asked: “What are you playing at?”

Paula said: “I have fallen in love with a man.

“Why is it so hard to believe?”

It has emerged Bronson is trying to sue Madeley for defamation.

He claims the presenter wrongly said on air he had attacked a prison governor last year.

How did Charles propose to Paula?

Details emerged of how Bronson wooed Williamson with a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s My Way as he serenaded her down the phone on Valentine’s Day.

The pair are believed to have grown close after they became penpals.

She added: “There are obviously difficulties him being in prison cause our relationship, but we feel so strongly about each other we’re determined to make it work.”

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Paula was asked if the engagement was a publicity stunt she said: “I do know Charlie and this is the real deal.

“I’m very excited to be his fiance because I’m in love with the man and that’s God’s honest truth.”

When did they get married?

The couple planned to tie the knot on Paula’s birthday in August – but had to wait for confirmation of a date for their ceremony from the authorities.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Paula revealed that they would be married “sooner rather than later” in the prison chapel, where they would be allowed 10 guests who would be a mixture of her friends and family and his.

The couple were granted permission to wed in a service that took place TODAY (November 14).

Former Corrie actress Paula Williamson was bundled into Wakefield jail under a purple cloak after a bizarre procession through the town led by a Bronson lookalike and a woman on a mobility scooter.

Britain’s most violent prisoner, 64, — who has spent the past 41 years in prison — was handcuffed to a warder for the strictly controlled two-hour ceremony witnessed by just five guests.

The pair held their wedding inside HMP Wakefield.

A reception was held at a local hotel, but Paula will be heading to Malta without her new husband as he was led back to his cell after the ceremony.

Paula emerged from the prison under a ghostly white shroud on top of her purple cloak, ensuring her dress was almost completely hidden from view.

She was then smuggled into the York House Hotel through a side door to continue the celebrations with friends and family – who had their phones confiscated as she has reportedly sold picture rights to a newspaper.

Did Paula have a relationship with Ian Brady?

Before Paula started her relationship with Charles Bronson she exchanged a series of letters and gifts with killer paedophile Ian Brady.

A request for her to visit him at high security psychiatric facility Ashworth Hospital was declined by bosses.

A friend said: “The fact she targeted Brady before has led some to wonder what her motivation is.

“She seems to be working her way through a list of the most dangerous men in the country.”
