Who is Matt Terry?

Twenty-four-year old Matt Terry auditioned for the X Factor for the first time in 2016 and immediately struck a chord with fans at home and the judges.

The former waiter left his job after his girlfriend dumped him, and hoped that a shot at the X Factor would launch him as a singer.

He told the panel: "Music is my passion and it would be a dream come true to make it through. It’s why I’m here."

The judges put him through after hearing his rendition of Stand By Me by Ben E. King.

Matt went on to win the 2016 series of X Factor.

Matt attended the D&B Academy of Performing Arts in Kent to learn his craft – which has now become the setting for reality show Stage School on E4.

The Sun revealed that Matt has a secret boyband past.  He was in a group called Far Too Far which also featured JLS star Marvin Humes's little brother Jackson.

The group got together in 2013 and fizzled out in 2014 after a trip to New York to meet with major record label Universal didn't pan out.

What has Matt Terry done since winning X Factor?

After his big win in December 2016 he immediately released his winner's single, When Christmas Comes Around, an original song written by Ed Sheeran.

The song reached Number Three in the charts.

It is only the second time that the winner has released an original song, the first being  Shayne Ward, who released his debut single That's My Goal.

Following his win, Terry signed with RCA Records.

Matt also found himself looking for love on Celebrity First Dates in the Stand Up For Cancer special.

When is Celebrity First Dates on?

This celebrity version of the hit show will be aired on Thursday November 2 (TONIGHT) on Channel 4 at 9pm.

This TV special is being done for Stand Up To Cancer.

The show goes up against BBC1's The Ganges with Sue Perkins, The Big Family Cooking Showdown on BBC Two and ITV's Ross Kemp Behind Bars: Inside Barlinnie.
