Who is Jessie Eden, new Peaky Blinders season 4 character played by Charlie Murphy? New love interest for Tommy Shelby

Peaky Blinders season 4 is set to air on November 15, and there is a new character set to arrive on the show.

Here is the lowdown on Jessie Eden, a real woman who led her fellow workers out on strike eight decades ago – and she’s set to fall in love with Tommy Shelby…

Who is Jessie Eden?

Jessie Eden’s story begins when she was at work and noticed a man taking notes behind her.

She realised that he was timing her, as she was the quickest in the mostly female workforce, and her speed was used to beat her colleagues to make them work faster.

The factory bosses were also timing the women when they went to the toilet in an effort to save money and improve profits by only paying them for the time they were actually working.

After a hasty meeting, Jessie decided this behaviour would not stand and led thousands of workers out on protest.

This act was a turning point in the creation of working rights for women – and the almost-forgotten story will be reignited in the new season of Peaky Blinders.

Jessie will be played by Irish actress Charlie Murphy.

Who is Charlie Murphy?

Charlie Murphy is an Irish actress who was born April 19 1988 in Enniscorthy, County Wexford.

She trained at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin between 2006 and 2008.

The actress is most well known for playing Siobhan Delaney in hit RTE drama Love/Hate, and won the 2013 Irish Film and Television Award for Best TV Actress.

You may also have seen her playing Ann Gallagher in BBC One drama Happy Valley.

Other shows she has made an appearance in include The Last Kingdom, where she played Iseult in 2015, Ripper Street, where she played Evelyn Foley in 2013, and To Walk Invisible, where she played Anne Bronte in the BBC drama.

When does season four of Peaky Blinders start?

Season four of the hit BBC drama is set to return on Wednesday, November 15, at 9pm.

It will be shown on BBC Two and becomes available on Netflix once it has aired.

The BBC commissioned seasons four and five at the same time, so we will probably get to see them in quick succession in 2017 and then 2018.

As ever, if you miss an episode you should be able to catch it on BBC iPlayer provided you have a TV licence.

What happens in season four of Peaky Blinders?

Cillian Murphy has confirmed a return as the leading man in the Birmingham based gangster show.

Steven Knight, the show's writer, has revealed his plans for the gang to reach the 1920s period – and see the fallout of the General Strike in 1926.

He revealed that he thought the time was a true "between the wars" story, as the city recovered from World War One with no knowledge of the impending World War Two.

The writer revealed: "I hope it does run and run all the way up to the Second World War, but it does get harder to get the cast together as the actors are being pulled into feature films. It’s a victim of its own success."

Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody is also set for a role in the BBC gangster drama.

Adrien, who bagged an Oscar for his role in 2002 movie The Pianist, was spotted filming in Liverpool flanked by security guards as bosses desperately tried to hide his involvement.

Their roles are being kept under wraps – but we can definitely expect fireworks!
