DIVERSITY founder and dance guru will be part of the Dancing on Ice 2018 judging panel.

But who is Ashley? What's his dancing background and where else might you have seen him? Here's how he conquered the dancing world…

Who is Ashley Banjo and where is he from?

English street dancer, choreographer and actor Ashley Modurotolu Banjo was born October 4, 1988.

Ashley grew up in Wickford, Essex with his younger brother, Jordan and his sister Talisa Banjo.

He went to St Johns School in Billericay and studied physics and biology at Queen Mary, University of London after previously attending SEEVIC College – having completed his first two years, he took a break from studying to concentrate on his dancing.

What was Ashley Banjo's early career?

In 2007, Ashley and his younger brother Jordan formed dance group Swift Moves with nine of their friends, before later changing their name to Diversity.

He was given the nickname 'Chosen' by his fellow Diversity members.

In their first year together, they won the Street Dance Weekend 2007 competition before deciding to enter Britain’s Got Talent.

When were his dance group Diversity on Britain’s Got Talent and did they win?

In 2009, Diversity won the third series of ITV talent show Britain's Got Talent – beating off hot favourite Susan Boyle, who came second.

All the judges heavily praised their performances throughout the competition, with Ashley's choreography being described by Amanda Holden as "genius".

In the final, referring to their winning performance, judge Simon Cowell said: "If I was going to give marks on that, that is the only performance tonight I would give a 10 to."

As winners of the competition, Diversity received £100,000 (around £9,090 per member) and went on to perform before the Queen at the Royal Variety Show in December 2009.

What did Ashley and Diversity do post-Britain’s Got Talent?

Diversity were nominated in the Dance section of the final South Bank Show awards and won an award at the Pride of Britain Awards.

In 2012 Diversity did their first arena tour called "Digitized – Trapped In The Game".

Ashley choreographed, produced and directed the tour.

Diversity sold out the O2 arena with a standing ovation.

In 2013 Ashley choreographed a third tour for Diversity called Limitless.

Ashley was a judge on Sky1's dancing talent show Got to Dance for all five series.

Diversity were struck by tragedy in July 2017 when dancer Robert Anker was killed in a car accident.

Is Ashley Banjo joining Dancing on Ice?

The Sun exclusively revealed that Ashley will be joining the Dancing on Ice judging panel alongside Torvill and Dean.

A telly insider said: “Producers are really excited about bringing Ashley into the fold.

“As well as being extremely talented, he has a great eye for choreography and can deliver strategic advice objectively.

“He might be a charmer, but he’s not a push-over and isn’t afraid to tell a contestant if they’re getting something wrong.”

Ashley is not known for his ice-skating prowess.

But he is now a dab hand at judging dance shows, following stints on ITV’s Dance Dance Dance and Sky’s Got to Dance.

The celebrity ice-skating contest launches early next year.
