Why is the transfer window opening early this summer?

The Premier League has voted to move the transfer deadline forward, from August 31 to August 9, so that all squads will be confirmed before the season starts on August 11.

But Fifa rules state that each country must have one transfer window which lasts 12 weeks, so the start date has also been brought forward.

Can only Premier League clubs buy players early?

The Premier League was thought to be the only UK league to vote for a change in its transfer window,

Confusion reigned in the EFL as with many believing that their opening date had remained unchanged.

But the league admitted this week that it had voted for change and that the EFL window was already open.

As of May 7, EFL clubs have been able to sign players in order to be ready for their season, which starts a week before that of the Premier League.

The EFL loan window will still run to August 31 even though the transfer window closes earlier.

All Europe’s other major leagues have left their transfer windows unchanged, meaning they will start at the beginning of June and finish at the end of August.
