Towie’s Mario Falcone joins the Fabulous Challenge as injured team captain Greg Rutherford is forced to pull out of trek

NEXT month over 50 amazing readers will be taking on this year’s Fabulous Challenge, trekking 75km across the rugged landscape of Oman to help raise money for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!

However, they’ll be short one team captain – as sadly Olympian Greg Rutherford can no longer take part – but a very familiar face will be taking his place.

The trek is usually led by two celebrity team captains and this year we had chosen Greg, along with author and blogger Giovanna Fletcher, for the job.

However, Greg received some bad news last week, which means he can longer join our intrepid adventurers due to an injury that has already seen him unable to compete all year.

But now Towie’s Mario Falcone – who also happens to be Giovanna’s brother – will be taking his place on the trek.

So while we may have lost an Olympian, there’s no doubt the competitive edge will remain just as strong!

Mario, talking about his new role, said: “I am very excited and honoured to be asked to be part of this year’s Fabulous Challenge.

“I’ve got big walking boots to fill, but will do my best to make sure that we raise loads of cash for CoppaFeel! and that my team have the adventure of a lifetime.”

Greg said: “I am absolutely devastated. I was so looking forward to joining my team and having an unforgettable adventure with them, so it’s gutting to learn that I can’t.

“CoppaFeel! is a wonderful charity and while sadly Oman is not to be for me, I know I will work together with them again in the future.”
