Strictly Come Dancing star Debbie McGee reveals the secret to her eye-watering splits is a spoonful of SILVER a day

SHE’S wowed viewers on Strictly Come Dancing with her ability to do standing splits and last week she scored perfect tens from all four judges.

You’d be forgiven for thinking Debbie McGee’s flexibility is solely down to her professional ballet training, or a strict regime of yoga and Pilates.

But while they come in handy for her exceptional dancing skills she says she keeps fit by taking a spoonful of the supplement Active Silver every day.

Debbie said the dissolvable vitamins, which contain tiny amounts of silver suspended in liquid, give her a boost during reversals, according to the Daily Mail.

“I love my food and health supplements,” she said.

“I have a spoonful of Active Silver every morning, which builds up your immune system, and omega and fish oil supplements.”

According to Active Silver’s website, the supplement, which can be bought for as little as £10, has antibacterial properties and can be used as an every day supplement to boost your immune system.

It is promoted as an aid for acne, cold, fatigue, sunburn, ulcers, warts, skin irritation, cuts, coughs, eczema, headaches and the flu to name a few.

But experts say there are no high quality studies on the health benefits of taking colloidal silver.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health in the US, colloidal silver can cause serious side effects, the most common being argyria – a bluish-grey discoloration of the skin, which is usually permanent.

In the UK colloidal silver is legally allowed to be added to any food supplements, a spokesperson from the Food Standards Agency said.

And in 1999 the US Food and Drugs Administration warned taking silver isn’t safe or effective against any illness or condition.

The 59-year-old has been taking the show by storm thanks to her show-stopping performances with professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice, 27.

She is the oldest contestant on the show, but hasn’t been letting age stand in her way.

She maintains a daily yoga or Pilates routine but says she got her dancing skills from her 80-year-old mum Lillian Howes.

Speaking to the Sunday People, she explained: “My mum just dances for fun. Her and my dad always used to dance at parties and weddings, they loved jiving.

“Since my dad died she goes out with her brother Toby on a Saturday night to a British Legion club that has a live band.”

She had also attributed her stunning figure to plenty of gardening.

A SUPPLEMENT THAT CONTAINS TINY PARTICLES OF SILVER

Active Silver is colloidal silver sold in a supplement or cream form.

The product has tiny particles of silver suspended in the liquid or cream designed to be ingested or rubbed on the skin

The same type of metal is found in jewellery, dental fillings and silverware.

Its manufacturers claim it has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and tissue healing properties.

It is promoted as an aid for acne, cold, fatigue, sunburn, ulcers, warts, skin irritation, cuts, coughs, eczema, headaches and the flu to name a few.

The product’s website claims the silver particles in their colloidal silver are positively charged and, when ingested or used on the skin, seek out negative ions or bad bacteria to cancel them out.

They say the bad bacteria in your body cannot build up a resistance to the silver, so it will always be effective.

Colloidal silver has been promoted as a natural treatment for many years, but medics claim it isn’t a safe or effective treatment for the conditions it is promoted for.

There has been no scientific evidence to suggest that colloidal silver works against any ailment.

It is also not clear how much colloidal silver may be harmful to your body.

It is thought to build up in your body over months or years and in extreme cases may cause kidney damage and neurological problems like seizures.

The widow and former assistant of magician Paul Daniels enrolled in dance school when she was seven.

At 16, McGee landed a coveted spot at the Royal Ballet School where she trained as a professional dancer.

But her ballet career was cut short when she was 19, while touring with the Iranian National Ballet in Tehran.

She was forced to flee the country following the Islamic Revolution, grabbing the last flight out.

Back in the UK, with no work or money, she landed a job as Paul Daniels’ assistant for his summer season in Great Yarmouth.

In 1980, she appeared in the magician’s London stage show It’s Magic, which became the longest-running magic show in the West End.

After hitting it off, the theatrical duo got married in 1988.

She is most famous for appearing on BBC One’s The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran for 15 years.
