A PUB landlord who used to down 50 pints of lager a week has shed 9st in six months after cutting out booze.

Adam Joy, 40, also swapped fast food for home-cooked dishes.

Now he no longer suffers from arthritis and high blood pressure.

Adam consumed 12,800 calories in Stella Artois lager every week — three-quarters of a man’s total weekly recommended intake.

He had 135 units of alcohol a week. The safe total is 14.

He said: “I started becoming unhappy after seeing pics of myself at my birthday last August. And then when I took my son to an England game at Twickenham.

“We had seats at the top of the stadium and I was struggling to make my way up.

“Punters would always offer to buy me a drink. I’d always accept.

“I wouldn’t have lunch or dinner during a stint behind the bar. I’d wait until the shift ended before ordering a takeaway, usually a kebab.

Adam, who was named Male Slimmer of the Year at his Slimming World group, now cooks all meals for wife Carol-Ann, 46, and kids Caitlin, 19, and Jack, 13.

He has even introduced healthy curry nights at his boozer, the Bird in Hand in Dartford, Kent.
