Liverpool star Sadio Mane sets team-mates challenge to echo Jurgen Klopp message

Sadio Mane has urged his team-mates to keep their foot on the pedal despite winning the Premier League title. The Reds were crowned champions a week ago after Chelsea beat Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The celebrations continued long into the night on Merseyside but now the focus switches back to the action with seven games left to play.

Liverpool are looking to gun down Manchester City’s record points haul from the 2017/18 season when they racked up 100 points.

While City look certain to finish second, Pep Guardiola’s men will be looking for revenge when the teams clash at the Etihad Stadium tonight.

The visitors can still reach 107 points permitting they win all of their matches.

“Records in football are there to beat so for sure we want to achieve something special after being champion.”

Jurgen Klopp is also adamant his players will give their all with several other records also left to play for.

Mane was on target in November when Liverpool beat City 3-1 at Anfield.

He has endured mixed fortunes at the Etihad having been shown a red card in 2017 for a high foot on Ederson, while last season he was millimetres from giving Liverpool the lead in their only league defeat.

“It’s going to be a really good game,” Mane added.

“For us there are no excuses, we have to do everything possible to win because now we have seven games.”

Mane has joined Mohamed Salah in committing his future to the club, insisting this group of players are hungry for more silverware.

The 28-year-old said: “This is another step for all of us for what we want to achieve.

“As football players you always have to be professional and hungry, in a good way, to win everything.

“I think we have a great team, great staff and the club is amazing.

“We have another step and big things to achieve, so we won’t stop here.

“We just have to believe in ourselves still and keep working harder and be humble, for sure.
