Kim Jong-un is all smiles behind the wheel of a new tractor – even though his crops have died

DODGY despot Kim Jong-un grinned from ear-to-ear as he got behind the wheel of a new tractor – even though his country’s fields are barren.

The feared dictator was all smiles in official photographs released by his state media following a visit to the Kumsong Tractor Factory.

However, the bizarre PR snaps will not fool the two million North Koreans known to be starving after floods destroyed tens of thousands of acres of farmland at the end of last year.

The “Glorious Leader” was also seen laughing alongside officials as he toured the tractor factory inspecting its latest machinery.

Chubby Kim, whose own taste for fine meats and cheeses is well-documented, was pictured inspecting cogs in a desperate attempt to look like a man of the people.

The images were released by the regime-controlled Korean Central News Agency. It is not known when the pictures were taken.

The UN believes that  two million people inside the world’s most secretive state are struggling to survive on meagre state handouts.

The daily ration includes just 650g of maize, rice or meat, according to the UN.

Defectors who survived the regime have told of people regularly starving to death, with bodies laid out in the streets.

Earlier today, a top military chief warned Kim’s military will be able to drop nukes on Britain within 18 months.

Sir Richard Barrons, the ex-commander of Joint Forces Command, gave a set of dire warnings about the failure of the British military to respond to changing warfare.

He told MPs on the Commons Defence Committee that one of Britain’s greatest threats came from North Korea, which “within the next 12 to 18 months, will make a nuclear missile to an intercontinental-range ballistic missile that can reach London”.

And he claimed: “We can’t deal with that”.

He added: “We now live in an age where people who are not on our side have capability that they could – not saying they will, they could – inflict on the UK homeland at short notice, which we can’t deal with.

“The armed forces are to some extent locked in a denial that they can hold this together. They can’t hold this together. They are effectively fielding holograms of capability in some cases.”
