But how old is the popular doll and what is her full name? Here’s what we know…

How old is Barbie?

It’s been 58 years since Barbie first hit the shelves, and hasn’t she aged well?

Looking back at Barbie in the 60s, she looks fit to be the First Lady of the United States.

Through the 70s and 80s, Barbie’s face grows rounder and friendlier – cracking a smile for the first time in 1976.

Her eyes also gets bigger, as do her eye lashes, and gone are the stern heavy lids of the 60s.

The 90s and 00s becomes all about the pink lip.

Barbie starts looking less childish as her face is made less round again.

What is Barbie’s real name?

Many people think that Barbie is a one-name wonder, like Cher, or Madonna, but it turns out everyone’s favourite, pink-wearing doll actually has a middle AND a last name.

That’s right, Barbie’s full title is actually Barbara Millicent ‘Barbie’ Roberts.

Her real name actually emerged back in the 1960s, when Random House published several books about her life.

It was revealed her parents – George (an engineer) and Margaret (a housewife) – live in the fictional town of Willows in Wisconsin, US.

She also has three younger siblings – a sister called Skipper and twins Tutti and Todd.

What is Ken’s real name?

It’s not just Barbie who was given a proper title and a family history – her boyfriend got in on the action too.

His full name is Kenneth Carson, and according to the Barbie myth, the couple met on the set of a TV commercial in 1961.

Ken’s parents are called Dr. Carl and Edna Carson, and he also has a younger brother – Tommy.

When was Barbie launched?

Barbie was launched in March 1959 by American businesswoman Ruth Handler.

She is said to have used a German doll called Bild Lillias her inspiration.

American toy company Mattel has sold over a billion Barbie dolls since she was launched, making it most profitable line in the company.

Are there any real life Barbies and Kens?

Rodrigo Alves, 34, is known as the “Human Ken Doll” thanks to his love of cosmetic surgery and he has spent over £373,000 on various procedures.

So far, the surgery addict has had 51 plastic surgeries and 103 cosmetic procedures – leading to his nickname “The Human Ken Doll”.

Currently, Rodrigo is said to be filming his very own reality TV show in the UK and was featured on Botched!.

Rachel Evans has spent £20,000 on plastic surgery to become a real-life Barbie doll.

Rachel has spent £20,000 on plastic surgery – including a boob job (taking her from a 32AA to a 32D), nose job, lip fillers, jaw tightening, Botox, cheek augmentation and eye lift – to make her look like Barbie.

She is especially a fan of Barbie’s “frozen” look, saying: “Every woman should be like Barbie and if they don’t they’re doing something wrong.

“When girls judge me it’s because they can’t look like me”.

Kerry Miles is another surgery-obsessed “Barbie” who has spent £100,000 on her quest to look like a human doll.

The beauty therapist, who was bullied for her flat chest at school, first started fashioning herself on plastic idol Barbie in 2010.

She has since spent tens of thousands of pounds on make-up, fake tan, hair extensions, teeth whitening, manicures, pedicures, fake eyelashes and expensive designer clothes.

Valeria Lukyanova is also known for doing everything she could to look like a doll.

The Ukrainian blonde famously spent five years crafting her body into a life-size version of the children’s doll.

Breast implants and over-the-top make-up helped, and she made sure her legs stayed slim thanks to her regular workouts.

Earlier this year two Russian pop stars with Barbie obsession faced off in court in bizarre copying row.

ACTRESS Bette Davis was famous for her roles on the big screen and TV – and also for her striking eyes.

Her eyes were so distinctive that they were subject of a hit song by Kim Carnes, but what colour were they?

What colour were Bette Davis’ eyes?

American actress Bette Davis was often filmed in close-up shots thanks to her distinctive eyes.

Her eyes were a deep blue colour, which often appeared to look brown when photographed in black and white.

English novelist Graham Green said of Bette’s appearance: “Even the most inconsiderable film … seemed temporarily better than they were because of that precise, nervy voice, the pale ash-blond hair, the popping, neurotic eyes, a kind of corrupt and phosphorescent prettiness.”

Why did Kim Carnes write her song?

The song Bette Davis Eyes was actually originally written back in 1974 by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon.

They got the idea for the tune after seeing Bette perform in the movie Now Voyager.

However, it was later revived in 1981 by Kim Carnes and spent nine weeks at no1 in the charts and won Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

At the time Bette was 73 years old and wrote letters to Kim, Donna and Jackie to thank them for making her “a part of modern times.”

The song has been covered by the likes of Taylor Swift in 2011 during her Speak Now World Tour and in 2014 by Kylie Minogue for BBC Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s compilation album.

What are the lyrics to Bette Davis Eyes?

Her hair is Harlow gold
Her lips are sweet surprise
Her hands are never cold
She’s got Bette Davis eyes
She’ll turn the music on you
You won’t have to think twice
She’s pure as New York snow
She got Bette Davis eyes

And she’ll tease you, she’ll unease you
All the better just to please you
She’s precocious, and she knows just what it
Takes to make a pro blush
She got Greta Garbo’s standoff sighs, she’s got Bette Davis eyes

She’ll let you take her home
It whets her appetite
She’ll lay you on the throne
She got Bette Davis eyes
She’ll take a tumble on you
Roll you like you were dice
Until you come out blue
She’s got Bette Davis eyes

Who wrote What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane was originally an American suspense novel by Henry Farrell that was published in 1960.

The book developed a cult following after it was published by Rinehart & Company.

When it was later adapted for the big screen it received positive reviews, and it was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one for Best Costume Design.

What is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane about?

It tells the tale of Hollywood star Blanche Hudson who is forced to move into a mansion with her sister Jane following being crippled from a mysterious car accident involving Jane.

Alcoholic Jane lives in bitter resentment at her sister, despite the fact attractive Blanche has to be confined to her room upstairs.

The story focuses on the chilling atmosphere of sibling rivalry and mutual loathing, with their relationship breaking down completely.

In one memorable moment Jane serves Blanche a rat on a silver platter and kills the cleaning lady who discovers Blanche’s existance.

Reality teeters into eerie fantasy as Jane slowly loses her mind and her cruelty intensifies.

BETTE Davis and Joan Crawford were two iconic American actresses of the 20th century.

Both had complicated love lives, which ultimately led to a rivalry between the pair. So how many times were they both married, and who to? Here’s what we know…

Who was Bette Davis married to?

Bette, whose real name was Ruth Elizabeth Davis, was married four times – and had three kids.

The actress was born in Massachusetts, USA, in April 1908 – and died of breast cancer in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, in October 1989, at the age of 81.

1. Harmon O Nelson (1932-1938)

Bette met her first husband Harmon Oscar Nelson, who was known as ‘Ham’, when she was at boarding school.

She married the musician in August 1932 and the couple were married for six and a half years – before eventually divorcing in December 1938, over Bette’s affair with business magnate Howard Hughes.

The couple were childhood sweethearts, and Bette is rumoured to have given Academy Awards the nickname ‘Oscar’ after Ham’s middle name.

But their marriage was also plagued with difficulties. Ham was mocked for his £75-a-week earnings, in comparison to Bette’s £750-a-week salary.

He is said to have refused to let Bette buy a house until he could afford one himself – and she had several abortions during their marriage.

2. Arthur Farnswroth (1940-1943)

The couple were happily married for two and a half years, until Arthur collapsed while walking along a Hollywood street in August 1943.

He died two days later, and an autopsy later revealed that his fall had been caused by a skull fracture suffered two weeks earlier. Bette was distraught over his untimely death.

3. William Grant Sherry (1945-1950)

Two years, later, Bette married artist and masseur William Grant Sherry. She is said to have fallen for him because he had no idea who she was.

In 1947, at the age of 39, Bette had her first daughter – Barbara Davis Sherry (known as B.D.).

Bette became absorbed in motherhood but, two years later, she and William were said to be estranged – while her career was almost at an end.

Their divorce was finalised on July 3, 1950, and Bette married again on July 28.

4. Gary Merrill (1950-1960)

Bette married actor Gary in 1950 and, just a few months later in January 1951, the couple adopted a five-day-old baby girl they called Margot Mosher Merrill.

The couple had met while filming All About Eve.

They later adopted a third child, Michael, in 1952 – but tragedy struck when Margot was diagnosed as severely brain damaged and institutionalised at the age of three.

The couple began arguing fiercely, and split in 1960. Bette was diagnosed with cancer in 1983, and eventually died six years later.

Who was Joan Crawford married to?

Joan was born Lucille Fay LeSueur in March 1904, and died of a heart attack in May 1977 – at the age of 73.

Like Bette, she was married four times, and adopted five kids.

One was reclaimed by his birth mother, while Joan disinherited the two elder kids – Christina and Christopher – after falling out.

1. Douglas Fairbanks Jr (1929-1933)

Joan married naval officer Douglas Fairbanks Jr in 1929 – much to the annoyance of his parents.

Douglas was the son of Zorro actor Douglas Fairbanks and the stepson of Coquette actress Mary Pickford – who were considered Hollywood royalty at the time.

They refused to invite Douglas Jr or his new wife to their home for eight months after the marriage.

While Douglas Sr eventually warmed to Joan, Mary continued to hate her.

Joan divorced Douglas Jr in May 1933, claiming he had a “jealous and suspicious attitude” in the separation papers.

2. Franchot Tone (1935-1939)

Following her divorce, Joan starred with stage actor Franchot Tone in Fred Astaire’s 1933 hit Dancing Lady.

She married Franchot two years later – and set about trying to forge a career for him in Hollywood.

He was reluctant, and is later said to have become physically abusive while drinking heavily.

Joan filed for divorce in 1939, but they later rekindled their friendship. Franchot proposed to his ex-wife in 1964 but she declined, and he passed away in 1968.

Franchot is said to be the reason she fell out with Bette, who reportedly accused her of sleeping with “every male star at MGM, except Lassie”.

Joan married small time actor Philip Terry in July 1942, after a six-month courtship.

The actress had already adopted Christina and they adopted a second child whom they called Christopher together.

When he was reclaimed by his mother, they adopted a third child who they called Philip Terry Jr.

When the couple split after four years together, Joan changed his name to Christopher Crawford. Keeping up?
