Game Of Thrones Star Peter Dinklage Had His Limbs Pulled Like A ‘stretch Armstrong Doll’ As A Child To Try To Overcome His Dwarfism, His Mum Reveals

GAME of Thrones star Peter Dinklage had his limbs pulled “like an Armstrong doll” in a bid to lengthen them as a child, his mum has revealed.

The 48-year-old’s family have given a rare insight into the actor’s early life, revealing how he overcame nasty taunts at school, dodgy haircuts and even getting trapped in a treasure chest to play Tyrion Lannister in the hit TV show.

In a world exclusive sit-down chat with The Sun Online at his childhood home in Morristown, New Jersey, family and friends told how he was treated like a “novelty” at school after being diagnosed with achondroplasia – a common form of dwarfism.

Standing at just 4ft 5in, he is the only dwarf in his family, but mum Diane said he was always determined his disability would not affect him.

But despite his positive attitude he had a hellish time with doctors as a child and was actually stretched in a bizarre attempt to cure his condition.

The former music teacher said: “When I gave birth to him I knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know what. The doctor was unsure if Peter was a dwarf.

“It would have been better if he’d said he was, because I was always wondering about it.

“They used to stretch out his little arms and legs like a Stretch Armstrong doll.”

Before he was old enough to walk, Peter was diagnosed with the genetic disorder where the arms and legs are shorter, but the torso is of average length.

Diane, 74, said: “There was no internet then, so we didn’t know much about the condition.

“I only knew dwarves to be in circuses and The Wizard of Oz movie.

She told how they had to be creative at the family home to suit Peter’s needs – such as letting him climb up onto the kitchen counter to reach boxes of cereal with a pair of kitchen tongs.

Despite his diminutive stature Peter thrived at school and “never complained about kids teasing him”.

Diane Lopez, his former drama teacher at Delbarton – an all-male Roman Catholic school in Morristown – praised the way he dealt with people making fun of his height.

She said: “Peter always had extreme presence, right from the get-go.

“He was confident and hung around with a tight-knit group, but I don’t think it was easy for him.

“I think maybe some children saw him as a novelty, and I remember one of the teachers saying he should ‘get to know and hang out with other little people.’

“I’m glad he didn’t listen to that … he wanted to be recognised for his own worth.

“Kids say stupid things, they don’t mean to, but it can really hit the core. I don’t think he showed it bothered him, he covered it well. I never saw him upset.”

Incredible photos from Peter’s official yearbooks in 1986 and 1987 show him horsing about with pals, performing a version of the Miami Vice theme song and showcasing a rather lustrous mullet haircut.

Peter went from strength to strength with his acting, playing the lead in his school production of The Velveteen Rabbit and going on to study drama at Bennington College.

He later moved to New York, living off friends’ sofas because he had so little money, before managing to launch his own theatre company with a friend.

Rex Features Dinklage has won international stardom as Game of Thrones’ Tyrion Lannister, but his family says he dislikes fame

He refused to play “demeaning roles” like elves and leprechauns and paved the way for other smaller actors to succeed in Hollywood.

Although he endured hard times, brother Jonathan said he would only take on the right roles in productions and movies – grittier characters with more emotional depth.

He said: “Dwarf roles have always been typically exploitative. Peter was the guy who knocked that down forever, he was a trailblazer.”

Their dad John, a violinist, passed away from cancer early on in his son’s career, but not before he got the chance to tell him how “incredibly proud” he was of his achievements.

Recalling the moment his mum found out Peter had been cast in Games of Thrones, she said: “Peter didn’t even have to audition, he was the first one they cast.

“It’s so well-written. I know the torture scenes aren’t real, but I have to leave the room when they’re on.”

But fame has not been easy for Peter, who has two young children with his wife, theatre director Erica Schmidt.

Who Is Invited To Meghan Markle And Prince Harry’s Wedding? Latest Rumours And News On The Royal Wedding Guest List

WITHOUT a shadow of doubt, Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle will be one of the major news events of the year – but who’s going to be on the guest list?

The forthcoming royal nuptials are sure to be a star-studded affair, with the couple boasting a host of high-profile pals. Here’s what we know so far about who could be attending the big day.

EPA The couple released their official engagement photos shortly before Christmas

Who’s invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding?

Prince Harry has admitted the guest list hasn’t yet been finalised – so beyond knowing that the likes of The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William will be invited, it’s all still to play for.

One thing seems certain, though – there won’t be as many wedding guests as when Harry’s big brother tied the knot in 2011.

This is because Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding took place at Westminster Abbey, with 1,900 guests – St George’s chapel, Harry and Meghan’s venue, has a capacity of 800 people.

Kate and Wills had their fair share of celebrity guests, such as the Beckhams, Sir Elton John and the late Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.

Also likely to be on Harry’s invite list are Tom Inskip and Guy Pelley. Harry may also want to invite Army comrades who he served alongside in Afghanistan.

With Meghan counting the likes of Serena Williams and her Suits on-screen partner Patrick J. Adams among her celeb pals, expect plenty of famous faces.

It’s inevitable that the wedding will be attended by a host of foreign royals, as well as significant political figures from across the Commonwealth.

And with an American marrying into the royal family for the first time, there has been speculation over whether Donald Trump will receive an invite.

One man who seemed determined to get an invite is Anthony Joshua, one of Harry’s guests during his special Radio 4 appearance – and he wants a starring role.

He tweeted a picture of himself with Harry, and wrote: “Back to work this morning! Congrats on everything this year and no pressure on the R4 guest edit.

“PS – need a best man?”

Will Elton John attend Harry and Meghan’s wedding?

The Sun has revealed that Elton John would be attending the Royal wedding.

The Rocket Man has cancelled two Las Vegas gigs on the same May weekend as the Royal nuptials, which leaves him free to attend or even perform.

The singer was a close friend of Harry’s mum Princess Diana and was among a handful of celebrities to attend Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

It was the same venue where he famously sang Candle in the Wind at Diana’s funeral in 1997.

Will Barack Obama be at the Royal wedding?

It was reported that the couple were keen to invite Barack Obama to the wedding rather than Trump – which had all the makings of a sticky political situation.

The 33-year-old prince has become good friends with Barack Obama and his wife Michelle since bonding with them during the Invictus Games.

Harry told aides he wanted the former US president and wife Michelle, who he counts as friends, to attend the big day at Windsor Castle on May 19.

But government mandarins had pleaded with the couple to change their minds as Britain’s relations with Trump’s White House sunk to their lowest ebb since his election last year.

And it seems they have had a rethink, as a source told the Daily Mail: “President Trump will not be invited because the wedding will be for friends and family only.

“It won’t be a state occasion. If Mr Obama was invited, the invitation could look like a snub to Mr Trump, and His Royal Highness would not wish to cause a diplomatic row.”

But Britain’s relations with Trump’s White House have sunk to their lowest ebb since his election last year.

The Sun revealed that the Government was urging the prince not to invite the Obamas, at risk of worsening tensions with the current administration.

The prince was quizzed on the possibility of inviting the Obamas when he guest-edited BBC Radio 4’s Today programme just after Christmas.

However, he refused to be drawn on the matter, insisting: “I don’t know about that, we haven’t even put the invites or the guest list together yet.

“So who knows who is going to be invited or not. I wouldn’t want to ruin that surprise.”

Will the Foo Fighters be performing at the Royal wedding?

The Sun’s Bizarre column exclusively revealed that the Foo Fighters have dropped hints they want to perform at the wedding.

Frontman Dave Grohl said: “I’ve saved the date. The performance was good. It’s nice to feel like a wedding band when everyone’s at tables eating tiramisu.”

The band, who picked up Best International Group at the Brit Awards 2018, played at Harry’s Invictus Games in 2014.

When are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle getting married?

Shortly after the engagement was announced, it was revealed that the wedding between Harry and Meghan will take place next spring in May.

On December 15, Kensington Palace confirmed the ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

The wedding is taking place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, which is where Harry was christened when he was three months old.

In a statement, Clarence House said: “Her Majesty The Queen has granted permission for the wedding to take place at the Chapel.

“The Royal Family will pay for the wedding.”

Where are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle getting married?

The couple will tie the knot at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Charles and Camilla had their televised blessing there in 2005 and it offers the couple a more low key venue than Westminster Abbey, where Kate Middleton and Prince William got married.

St George’s Chapel can accommodate 800 guests, whereas the Abbey seats 2,000.

Harry and Meghan have said they are looking at ways to make their wedding an event that members of the public can feel a part of.

It is also the most convenient option for the Queen and Philip, who spend most of their time at the Castle.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding will be held on Saturday 19 May 2018, Kensington Palace has announced

Kitkat Is Under Threat As Nestle Bosses Urge Judges To Protect The Iconic British Four-fingered Chocolate Bar

NESTLE bosses have launched a desperate bid to save one of Britain’s best-loved sweet treats from an uncertain future.

Company chiefs have urged euro judges to overturn a ruling that the KitKat’s distinctive four-fingered shape cannot be protected.

During a hearing at the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg yesterday, they argued it should be granted a trademark.

The pair have been locked in 12-year legal battle, with Nestle fearing a loss would lead to Britain being flooded with cheap, rip-off KitKats.

Their court battle unfolded on the same day euro judges dealt a hammer blow to two key British industries.
