Ahead of today’s First Test, he said: “Everyone says we can’t win, from ex-players to ex-coaches, they’re saying we’re no good.

“Everyone is bagging us. It’s a great opportunity to show we are of value.”

Jones has lost his last four games in charge and faces a rebooted Springbok side at their Ellis Park hunting ground in Johannesburg.

Even with blockbusting No 8 Billy Vunipola back for his first Test match in 15 months the Boks are still favourites.
