Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and Sam Smith to top the bill at next year’s Brit Awards

AN A-LIST trio of British music stars will light up the Brit Awards next February.

ED SHEERAN, SAM SMITH and STORMZY top the bill of domestic headline acts to perform on UK music’s biggest night of the year.

All three are likely to feature heavily among the gongs handed out on the evening, with Ed the likeliest to walk away with the most awards on the back of his record breaking album Divide.

He’ll certainly be more valued by the Brits committee than their Grammys’ counterparts.

Ed failed to receive a single nomination in the major categories for January’s US gongs when they were revealed last month.

But a Brits insider said: “Show chiefs were desperate to secure Ed, Sam and Stormzy as they’re the biggest names in UK music right now.

“The combined record and streaming figures are insane and the booking is bound to add numbers on the viewing figures too.
“It’s shaping up to be a top night.”

Rising star DUA LIPA, who is hotly tipped to be nominated and could even win the British Female award, has a performance slot at the February 21 ceremony at London’s O2 Arena. It caps an incredible breakthrough year for the Londoner.

Ed and Stormzy performed together during this year’s ceremony — a remix of Ed’s No1 track Shape Of You.

It was one of the highlights of the evening, certainly more memorable than THE 1975’s performance.

Funnyman JACK WHITEHALL was last week announced as the new host for the Brits, taking over the reins from DERMOT O’LEARY and EMMA WILLIS who did a great job replacing MICHAEL BUBLE at short notice for this year’s ceremony.

It will be interesting to see if Nineties boyband fan Jack can use his power to book in a performance of his choosing.

The Sun’s Bizarre column will again be the Brits official partner so you can get all the gossip here.

Saturday night's all-rita

RITA ORA does her best ELTON JOHN impression as she steps out in blinged-up red-tinted sunglasses.

She donned the eyewear, which looked like it had been borrowed from the Saturday Night’s Alright singer’s wardrobe from 1976, as she headed to London’s Heathrow Airport on Saturday.

Rita was there to jet off on a trip with new boyfriend Andrew Watt.

She was spotted cosying up to the US music producer at the check-in desk and they were more than happy to pack on the PDA as they were seen laughing and cuddling.

Rita confirmed her relationship with Andrew last week after she faced a backlash for sharing a string of snaps of a “date night” with MMA hardman CONOR McGREGOR.

Andrew helped create Rita’s recent tunes Lonely Together and Anywhere.

After making such amazing chart-toppers it’s no wonder she’s so smitten with him.

Liam: Cheryl has banished by zombie

FROM becoming a dad for the first time to launching a successful solo career, LIAM PAYNE has had quite a year.

And the former ONE DIRECTION star has made sure to finish 2017 with a bang by playing a string of huge Christmas gigs in the US.

Liam performed some of his new hits at Florida radio station FLZ’s Jingle Ball in Tampa on Saturday night. Also taking to the stage were CAMILA CABELLO, CHARLIE PUTH and NICK JONAS.

Liam’s gig came just a couple of weeks after he reunited with former bandmate NIALL HORAN to perform at KISS FM’s Jingle Ball in Dallas, Texas.

I’m sure he will be relieved to be heading back to London and CHERYL this week to enjoy their baby Bear’s first Christmas.

However, Liam admitted that the couple won’t be slobbing out watching some of his favourite shows together.

Speaking at the concert, he said: “Walking Dead is so good but my girlfriend won’t watch it with me. She’s like, ‘I’m not doing the zombie thing.’ She doesn’t want our son to be going round like a zombie.”

Maybe something like Love Actually would be more appropriate viewing at this time of year.

Under pressure

QUEEN are one of the greatest bands of all time, so I’m not surprised actor RAMI MALEK feels pressure playing the late frontman FREDDIE MERCURY in the upcoming biopic.

But the Mr Robot star has secretly been getting tips on playing the music icon from the people who knew him best, his bandmates BRIAN MAY and ROGER TAYLOR.

Rami, as Freddie, attended both of the group’s shows at London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday, before sneaking backstage to hang out with the pair.

Asked what he thought of the concerts, in which ADAM LAMBERT very successfully stepped into Freddie’s job, he said they were “f***ing rad.”

The extra help from Brian and Roger could be needed, as the film has once again hit a tough patch.

Filming finally started on Bohemian Rhapsody in August after almost a decade of planning, but was halted this month when director BRYAN SINGER was fired.

Now it looks likely that it will not be out for its intended December 2018 release date.

Plenty of time for Rami to get his Freddie impression down.

Mel C-ing life more clearly

MEL C joined the likes of PRINCE HARRY, LADY GAGA and ADELE by opening up about depression earlier this year.

And now the former SPICE GIRLS singer has revealed that she has signed up to a mindfulness course in a bid to help with her ongoing battle with mental health.

In an exclusive interview, she said: “I still struggle with depression. I’ve just started doing a mindfulness course and I find that really helps.

“I eat healthily and I go to the gym, but I wasn’t just chilling and being present. I have to say, it’s really helped me.

“I’ve had days where I’ve not wanted to get out of bed and I have a child, so it’s hard because you’ve got to get out of bed, you’ve no choice.

“But these tiny little tricks are really helpful, it’s really helped me.”

One thing she does have to distract her is her music, as she has her solo projects to focus on with two new albums pencilled in for next year.

Mel explained: “In the new year I’m very excited to be working with some new people.

“I actually have two new albums, two new projects in the workings, so when I get back in the new year it’s all go.”

Hopefully one of those projects might involve VICTORIA BECKHAM, MEL B, EMMA BUNTON and GERI HALLIWELL . . .

TOMORROW: FOUR years after it was axed, Dancing on Ice is back with PHILLIP SCHOFIELD and HOLLY WILLOUGHBY at the helm.

This year’s skaters, including KEM CETINAY, CANDICE BROWN and BROOKE VINCENT, get their blades on for the launch at London’s Natural History Museum ice rink.

WEDNESDAYREBEL WILSON, ANNA KENDRICK and HAILEE STEINFELD return to our screens in Pitch Perfect 3.

The Bellas, who struggled to find work after winning the World title, reunite for one last singing competition.

THURSDAY: WITH Christmas just a week away, MATT GOSS gets into the festive spirit for one of his final intimate seasonal gigs – A Matt Goss Christmas.

The BROS singer will be joined by THE DUALERS and X Factor’s MATT LINNEN at O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London.

FRIDAYLOUISE REDKNAPP won’t let her marital strife stop her pop comeback.

The former ETERNAL singer plays her first show in 15 years, called Intimate & Live, at London’s Under The Bridge.

The gig sold out in 15 minutes when it was announced earlier this year. I doubt JAMIE bought a ticket.

Caught live – Dick Whittington, London Palladium

I ASKED Bizarre’s Benjy Potter to check out one of Britain’s premier pantos, running until January 14. Here is his verdict . . .

There are few places acid-tongued comic Julian Clary can fully unleash his acerbic wit and drier-than-dry humour . . . but this is one of them.

He refuses to allow a single innuendo to go unsaid, hamming camp character Spirit Of The Bells to the rafters.

FLY-on-the-wall shows following reality telly couples are all the rage.

Now SPENCER MATTHEWS and VOGUE WILLIAMS, who met this year making The Jump, want to leap on the bandwagon.

Spencer, also working on a campaign with CasinoEuro.com, said: “We would love to work together on a TV project but it would have to be the right idea.

“It’s odd to think that this is going to be our first Christmas as we feel that we have been together much longer.”

With his chequered dating history, it’s great he’s managed to stay loyal.
