Who is Elise Christie?

Elise, 27, is a Scottish short-track speed skater, from Livingston, who was born on August 13, 1990.

She moved to Nottingham when she was 15, to focus on her training, and is currently studying sport science at Loughborough College.

She specialises in the 1000m event, and is a ten time European gold medallist.

Why was Elise Christie nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year?

Elise is one of 12 nominees for BBC Sports Personality of the Year – with the winner being announced on Sunday December 17.

It’s been a big year for the skating star – so why was she put forward?

She recovered from a difficult 2014 Winter Olympics, at Sochi, to become a triple world champion this year.

Elise took the 1,000m, 1,500m and overall titles at the World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Rotterdam – and won bronze in the 3,000m.

She was named the Sunday Times Sportswoman of the Year, and also won a World Cup event in South Korea.

Former skating champion Jayne Torvill, who won the 1984 award with partner Christopher Dean, told the BBC: “It’s been a long time since someone from the ice has been nominated for Sports Personality.

“It’s fantastic that Elise could win three gold medals at the world championships. What a very talented young lady.

“It shows a lot of strength to come back from such a disappointment at the previous Olympics. It shows how strong she is, never mind physically but mentally.

“For Elise going into an Olympics as a world champion, she will be the one to watch. Hopefully she can do it again.”

Who is Elise Christie dating?

Elise’s boyfriend is Hungarian short-track speed skater Liu (Sándor) Shaolin – who has a Chinese dad.

But he cheered himself by sharing the news he is a father-to-be with an Instagram post showing off his scan with partner Sabrina Kvist Jensen.

The playmaker captioned the happy snap: “Mum & Dad to be ❤️ #proud #2018”

Last year the Denmark international admitted it was tough living in London for his girlfriend while he had a full-time job that took up so much of his time.

And now he will have to find even more hours in the day for late-night feeds, nappy changes and winding.
