Calvin Klein’s Firefighter-inspired Show Heats Up New York Fashion Week With High-vis Orange Macs, Woolly Balaclavas And Silver-foil Gloves

KATE Moss, Millie Bobby Brown and Kendall Jenner have all had the coveted role of Calvin Klein muse.

But the luxury US fashion giant – famed for its bold logo T-shirts and underwear – has looked to an unlikely place for inspiration for its Autumn/Winter 18 collection: the fire brigade.

Splash News Models stormed down the Calvin Klein NYFW runway yesterday in high-vis orange coats and balaclavas

Models heated up the New York Fashion Week runway yesterday in high-vis orange padded macs, hand-woven woolly balaclavas and silver-foil gloves.

Calvin Klein creative director Raf Simons paid tribute to emergency service heroes with his ‘Survival Chic’ showcase, which was held at the American Stock Exchange.

The bleak set looked like the site of a nuclear fallout. A giant timber structure resembled a ruined building, while popcorn littered the floor like debris.

A model lit up the presentation in a tangerine jumpsuit that featured reflective stripes, chest pockets and white plastic trousers.

Heavy-duty silver gloves, space-age boots and cat-eye sunglasses completed the look.

JOANNA Lumley hosted the 2018 BAFTAs, but suffered an awkward moment when she realised she was wearing the same dress as one of the stars in the room.

Joanna and actress Rebecca Ferguson both stepped out for the occasion in a caped black gown.

Both women stuck to the all-black dress code to support the Times Up movement, but proved that original frocks are sometimes hard to find.

The 71-year-old Absolutely Fabulous star and the 34-year-old Swedish actress, who has featured in The Girl On The Train and Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation, both donned very similar dresses.

Did Joanna pretend not to notice and inwardly cringe?

Hell no – the funny woman made a joke about the situation and how they were similar in age, and kept the awkwardness to a minimum.

Twitter has been loving Joanna’s cape all night.

One woman tweeted: “Can we all take a moment to appreciate Queen Joanna Lumley and her cape! She looks FLAWLESS #EEBAFTAs #JoannaLumley”.

While another wrote: “Joanna Lumley’s wearing a cape to to present the #BAFTAs she’s already better than Stephen Fry in my book!”

But it wasn’t JUST Joanna Lumley and Rebecca Ferguson – even more actresses donned capes for the night.

Could Joanna, Rebecca, Natalie and Ange all convince us to become caped crusaders in real life?

We sure hope so because if the Times Up movement isn’t enough proof that women hold the power, a superhero cape could be just what’s needed.

Baftas 2018 Fashion Fails… Anya Taylor-joy, Cressida Bonas & Haley Bennett Don’t Quite Hit The Mark

Published

By

THE BAFTAs is a night to show off your best style and to get showered in praise for choosing an amazing outfit. This lot didn’t quite get the memo, and chose looks for the night that didn’t make you go ‘wow’.

AP:Associated Press Anya Taylor-Joy went for a high fashion look for the BAFTAs Anya Taylor-Joy experimented with a daring look for the BAFTAs, but the traditional event isn’t somewhere to try a new style. The 21-year-old actress went for Dolce & Gabbana head-to-toe for the event – complete with a gold headband. Perhaps this look would be best suited at the Teen Choice Awards. Or for her graduation ball surrounded by all her friends, not royalty.

PA:Press Association Haley Bennett arrived in this shocker

Actress Haley Bennett is known to be a rising star in the style department, but she is majorly missing points with this catastrophic look.

Wearing this Chloe dress, she looks like she’s auditioning for the role of the wicked witch in panto.

Not a good choice with this one, Haley.

Rex Features Cressida Bonas failed with this look Prince Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas is a gorgeous girl, but she definitely missed the mark for the BAFTAs. From the naff sequins to the frills, the clunky shoes and the Sandy from Grease hair, this is not her finest hour.

Rex Features Allison Janney, what were you thinking? I, Tonya star Allison Janney should be looking a million dollar for the BAFTAs, thanks to being a nominee. But no, she hasn’t quite cut it with this strange ensemble. We have so many questions: Did they run out of fabric for the front? Why are the arms so terrible? Did she want to wear this?

Rex Features Our eyes are hurting

Rex Features Tatiana Korsakova attending the EE British Academy Film Awards held at the Royal Albert Hall

This dress looks like Tatiana Korsakova couldn’t decide what to wear so she raided her Christmas wrapping paper collection and whipped up a whole new look.

Way too much.

PA:Press Association Ruth Wilson looked like she was off to a job interview Actress Ruth Wilson wanted to be suited and booted – showing off that women can wear suits on the red carpet just like any man can. And while we give her an A for effort, this look is too severe; she looks like she’s off to an interview right after attending a funeral.

Rex Features AJ Odudu went sheer and daring

When you’re hanging out with royalty, it’s a night for pure class and AJ Odudo didn’t get the message.

This dress is more suited for a night out in a club than a regal red carpet affair.

PA:Press Association Jackie St Clair should have left her jacket at home

Rex Features Hayley Squires played it safe

There’s nothing wrong with Hayley Squires’ dress, but it doesn’t excite.

The girl needs her moment to shine, and a boring plain dress isn’t going to do it.

Rex Features Lucy Cohen’s dress is a bit too Morticia Addams

Rex Features Hugh Grant’s girlfriend chose chunky boots for the swish red carpet

The 2018 BAFTAs saw some of the biggest names in showbiz wearing black to make a stand against sexual harassment, but some just didn’t want to play ball.

PA:Press Association Hofit Golan broke the rules

While Hofit Golan’s dress is delightful, it did break the all-black rule for this year’s attendees.

Kate Middleton also broke the all-black dress code, but unlike Hofit, she had a reason.
