THAT a new Call of Duty mobile game is on the way should not come as a surprise to anyone.
That one is being developed by King, the multi-billion pound mobile gaming behemoth behind the saccharine Candy Crush, Shuffle Cats and Farm Heroes may do, though.
Some of King’s current slate of free-to-play PC games, which are a world apart from the guns and gore of Call of Duty
The news comes via a job listing that King has posted, which was spotted by Game Informer.
“In collaboration with Activision Blizzard, we [King] are adapting one of the most iconic game franchises of all-time: Call of Duty,” the listing says.
It goes on to say their aim “is to create a Call of Duty experience on mobile” and that this game should “social and highly accessible”, but also “very authentic”.
Detail in the listing suggests that the game will be a first-person shooter — no matching three Thompson Submachine Guns for points here — as the levels the applicant will be expected to design should be “great to traverse”.
King’s usual games really are a world away from Call of Duty’s more visceral pleasures
