And though Arsenal are still trying to convince the Germany World Cup winner to sign a new contract, the club have started to prepare for his departure.

That means scouring the continent looking for a replacement for the playmaker – and according to the Mirror they have found one in the Bundesliga.

Goretzka, 22, is regarded as one of the best young players in Germany and has been watched by a host of top clubs across Europe.

But Schalke fear losing him next summer when his contract runs out, with the midfielder showing no sign of taking up the offer of a new deal.

As he is under 24 the German club would be due a compensation fee for him, but nowhere near his true market value.

So they are considering selling him in the January transfer window if he makes it clear he will not commit his future to the club beyond this season.

Arsenal are said to be watching the situation closely with an open mind to making a move if Schalke make it clear they would be willing to sell in January.

We lift the lid of the reason for the ultimate Hollywood battle between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford…

Why did Bette Davis and Joan Crawford fall out?

The rivalry between  Hollywood’s biggest leading ladies lasted for more than half a century.

Reports suggest that a combination of man troubles, and intense competition over roles and awards led to the tension.

Supposedly the pair were both enamoured by the same man, dashing actor Franchot Tone.

Bette reportedly fell for him while filming the 1935 movie Dangerous, but Joan apparently also took a shine to him.

Ms Crawford apparently invited the gent over for dinner but greeted him completely naked in her solarium.

Joan and Franchot married and divorced but the rift between the ladies continued to go strong.

Bette reportedly said of Joan: “She slept with every male star at MGM, except Lassie.”

While Joan reportedly said of Betty: ““She looks like she’s never had a happy day, or night, in her life.”

In 1943 Joan signed up with Warner Brother’s studio so the pair became in direct competition for some of the biggest parts, fuelling their bitter relationship.

When did they Bette Davis and Joan Crawford What Ever Happened To Baby Jane together?

In 1962 the pair starred together in the film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane and their feud peaked.

Joan was married to the CEO of Pepsi at the time so Bette insisted on having a Coca Cola vending machine installed in her dressing room.

And for the scenes when Bette had to drag Joan across the floor, Joan put rocks in her pockets to make it as difficult as possible.

The film was critically acclaimed and Bette was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress off the back of her performance.

Publicly Joan told reporters: “I always knew Bette would be chosen, and I hope and pray that she wins.”

But privately Bette was reported as saying: “That’s so much bull.”

In his book Bette and Joan: The Divine Feud, Shaun Considine said: “When Miss Crawford wasn’t nominated, she immediately got herself booked on the Oscar show to present the best director award.

“Then she flew to New York and deliberately campaigned against me. She told people not to vote for me.

“She also called up the other nominees and told them she would accept their statue if they couldn’t show up at the ceremonies.”

Bette didn’t win in the end, the award went to Anne Bancroft for the Miracle Worker and Joan did indeed go on stage in her absence to collect the Oscar.

When will Feud: Bette and Joan be on BBC Two?

The series will air on BBC Two from December 16th, 2017.

The drama created by Ryan Murphy, Jaffe Cohen, and Michael Zam has been acquired by BBC Two from 20th Century Fox and was televised in America in March.

Patrick Holland, Controller of BBC Two, said: “I am delighted that Ryan Murphy’s brilliantly realised series Feud: Bette and Joan is coming to the channel.

“It features some wonderful performances, a flawless recreation of period and a delicious unravelling of a personal drama that had a massive impact on modern cinema. Feud is a real treat.”

The penalty gave the Hammers an early lead and was the first of their three unanswered goals.

A furious Mark Hughes said Lanzini had “clearly dived”.

Hughes raged: “He’s clearly dived. He’s a clever player. He wasn’t clipped, he’s just clearly dived.

“It’s disappointing the referee hasn’t seen that and he should have given us a free-kick prior to him taking the ball into the box. He got the situation doubly wrong from our point of view.
